Project Info: 2,818 square feet, originally built in 1980

These clients came to me because they loved their location, and parts of their home, but it no longer fit how they lived. With three teenagers, working from home, and the possibility of aging parents moving in, it was time for an update built for the next 20 years.

The design focuses on flexibility: spaces that support busy family life now, can adapt for multigenerational living later, and eventually transition to an empty nest—without losing comfort or connection. And it’s not all practical. Reading nooks, hidden passageways, and a built-in laundry pass-through add moments of surprise and fun.

To add another layer, the clients wanted to stay in the home during construction. The project will be completed in two phases. The addition will be completed first so they can move into it and then renovating the original spaces once there’s room to shift.
